Residential interior design process
Step 1:
Design brief
Firstly, we’ll discuss your residential interior design project and gain an understanding of what you hope to achieve from your new space.
Step 2:
Concept design
Following our meeting, we’ll get to work on designing initial plans which will include 3D models and floor plans. We’ll also start thinking about which fabrics and furniture would suit the space.
Step 3:
Design development
We will then refine the interior layout and consider economic, environmental and construction needs.
Step 4:
Technical design
We’ll develop a technical construction pack with finishing schedules and FF&E specifications.
Step 5:
Construction
Working alongside contractors, we’ll ensure that the work carried out is according to the design brief and is completed to a high standard.
Step 6:
Handover and closeout
Once construction has finished, we’ll visit the site to determine whether further work needs to be carried out and the project will only come to a close once both ourselves and the client are happy.

Residential design FAQs
What is residential interior design?
Residential design involves designing a client’s home or personal space opposed to a commercial property. There is a focus on transforming a house so that it reflects a person’s personal taste whilst ensuring the building is still fully functional. Here at KTM Design, we offer full residential interior design services, from selecting the best lighting and creating the right atmosphere to supplying bespoke furniture which matches your personal style.
How to design a residential house
When it comes to residential interior design, there a few considerations you need to make, including:
What is your personal style? Your home should reflect your interests and preferences so the first thing you need to do is think about what styles of residential design you like so that an interior designer gets a good idea of what you’re looking for. Perhaps you prefer contemporary spaces or you’re looking to give your house a more luxury feel.
How much space do you have in your house? Interior designers are skilled at making the most of available space and will consider the room layouts and the building’s architecture to ensure ideas put forward are achievable.
Which lighting will create the right atmosphere for your home? We have in-house lighting experts who can help you to light up your home.
Think about colours - which are your favourite and what mood do they create? This will determine the paint you use on your walls as well as the furniture and art you should all tie together.
Consider your budget - your budget will inevitably play a part in the scale of the residential design project.
Remember, residential design is about making a house your home and you’re in control of how it takes shape. Our professional team of residential interior designers are here to bring their creative eye, expertise and forward-thinking to bring your project to life!
