Sustainable Style: A Look Back at a Brilliant Evening of Design and Conversation

In November, we were proud to host Sustainable Style, an evening focused on sustainable practices in interior design and architecture. Held at The Pavilion in Bournemouth, the event welcomed over 120 professionals from across the creative industries from interior designers and architects to developers, consultants, and makers.

The event created space for meaningful discussion around sustainability in design, with conversations covering material choices, responsible sourcing, long-term thinking, and the shifting expectations of clients and end users.

We were joined by an inspiring panel of speakers, each bringing their unique insight and experience to the table:

  • Mara Rypacek Miller, founder of Industville, spoke about her journey building a brand rooted in craftsmanship and conscious production.

  • Chloe Bullock, author and BIID Sustainability Committee member, explored the future of sustainable interior design, sharing insights from her upcoming book commissioned by RIBA.

  • Scott Lewis, architect and co-owner of Lama, gave a thoughtful look into sustainable construction through his work on The Bide, a retreat featured in The Times and Elle Decoration.

  • Emer Gillespie, director of Spark & Bell, discussed circular design and how her B-Corp certified lighting brand champions handmade, low-impact production.

  • Summer Obaid, co-founder of Abstract House, offered valuable insight into sustainable practices within the art market and how her business is working to make art more accessible and environmentally conscious.

The evening was hosted by Roddy Clarke, design writer and sustainability advocate, who guided the discussion with warmth and purpose.

We’ve had amazing feedback from attendees, many of whom commented on how refreshing and valuable the conversation was — with several noting the mix of practical ideas, honest discussion, and inspiration.

It was a brilliant atmosphere, with thoughtful talks, great connections and a shared sense of responsibility for doing better in design.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. We're looking forward to hosting more conversations like this soon.
