An interior trend that we believe will be sticking around. Colour drenching is the art of painting every surface in a room one single colour. Think walls, skirting, coving, doors, ceiling, joinery – you name it, it can be drenched!

Why colour drench?

This technique can uplift rooms to feel modern and crisp, whilst maintaining an enveloping feeling that can be incredibly cosy. It can make a room feel larger and add more depth, as each surface blends into one. Low ceilings can appear higher and high ceilings can feel more cocooning. Colour drenching can make a space feel more intimate and inviting, as if a blanket has been wrapped around the room. It's a clever, cost-effective way of achieving a luxurious, impactful interior that makes a statement.

What colour should I use?

When deciding on what colour to ‘drench’ around a room, consider the purpose of the room, how much natural light it gets and how you want it to feel. For example, in a snug or movie room, you might want to create a moody, dramatic interior using deep, saturated shades. Think jewel tones – navy, sapphire, emerald or ruby. If you prefer a light, airy and soothing space, opt for neutral tones or light blues and greens. This will create a fresh and uplifting feel; perfect for a bedroom or home office.

Highlight your furnishings and décor

Colour drenching a room brings your furniture and styling to the forefront of the space; giving it more impact. In a deeper colour drenched room, go for a piece of furniture in a contrasting and bold colour to add some drama. Or, in a lighter colour drenched room, let natural materials, statement lighting or special pieces of artwork do all the talking.
